Reports to: Research director, editor
Job summary:
Responsible for gathering all research necessary to publish accurate and
thorough Top 25 lists each week. Also responsible to provide research
for enterprise projects that require specific research expertise. As
time permits, responsible to provide research to individual reporters.
Duties:
1. Find and survey every relevant company – regardless of its size or
stature – for each list. Follow up by phone or e-mail to individual
companies and organizations that don’t respond to survey.
2. Keep accurate, thorough records of all attempts to contact any
relevant company so it’s clear that exhaustive attempts were made in
pursuit of the information necessary to make each list complete.
3. Seek out other legitimate and credible sources of information for
lists, including third-party research resources that, at least, enable
verification of information provided by companies.
4. Read the Business Journal and other relevant local publications each
week to cull for companies to add to research database and to keep track
of other changes that need to be made to the database (i.e., changes in
company executives, location, number of employees, etc.)
5. Use Web and other research tools to provide additional relevant
information to reporters for stories and design editor for art.
6. Add relevant research function to at least two staff enterprise
projects per year.
7. Meet with industry experts prior to beginning research for new lists,
to determine the most relevant information to be included.
8. Show progress each week toward goal of zero defects.
9. Maintain research database to ACBJ specifications.
10. Meet with one beat reporter each month to discuss relevancy of lists
related to his or her beat.
11. Paginate lists.
12. Participate in planning annual editorial calendar.
13. Assist with weekly fixtures.
14. Maintain confidentiality of research prior to publication.
Minimum job requirements:
1. Education: College degree or comparable work experience required.
Library science or research specialization preferred.
2. Experience: Some relevant research experience preferred.
3. Skills: Filemaker Pro, InDesign, persuasive phone skills, strong
organizational skills, ability to manage several significant projects at
once
Supervisory responsibilities:
None
Working conditions:
Required to meet with outside industry sources regularly.
Required to attend company-sponsored events as required by editor or
publisher.

Missouri Employers Mutual seeks a librarian to develop its resource library, serving 240 employees across Missouri. The resource library is the primary tool for employee development and enrichment. The librarian will identify specific resources for each department: customer service, finance, marketing and strategic development, government and policy holders’ relations, human resources, and executive. This is an ideal position for students in the late phases of their library education or graduates who wish to gain experience in a special library. PhD students in library science or instructional technology are also encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The librarian will be responsible for:
- weeding and developing a core business reference collection
- identifying new and leading edge technological solutions to encourage on-site and distance employees’ personal and professional development
- finding a solution for cataloging and circulating materials
- identifying leading business and industry periodicals and other publications
REQUIREMENTS: The ideal candidate must have completed core courses in the Library Science program and have a strong interest in business and employee development. Some knowledge of instructional technology, social networking tools, and distance learning is essential. The candidate should have experience creating databases for library use, or experience with library software.
PREFERRED: Experience in human resources and knowledge about the insurance industry would be helpful.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: This is a part time, temporary position. Compensation is based upon education and experience; those holding an MLS should expect $14.00 to $15.00 per hour. The job will entail a maximum of 20 hours per week.

MANAGER OF TECHNICAL SERVICES, LEGAL, MIDWEST
An international law firm with 16 offices worldwide has an immediate opening for a Manager of Technical Services in their St. Louis office. The Manager of Technical Services catalogs all library holdings for all offices utilizing the Inmagic library database and OCLC Connexion Client. This position is responsible for the long term strategic planning of the Firm wide technical services functions. Must be a team player with a solid service commitment, and able to deal professionally and communicate clearly and concisely with both internal and external clients on all levels.
THE POSITION: Oversee all aspects of technical services functions, which include providing direction to the Library Database Coordinator and Collection Management Librarian. Classify all library holdings using the LC Classification system. Catalog all library holdings firm wide, utilizing OCLC bibliographic records when possible, and create original Inmagic records when necessary. Perform original and copy cataloging for all firm libraries and ensure data integrity of the catalog. Convert OCLC records to a format compatible with the Inmagic Catalog by use of the MARC Transformer. Improve the consistency of data entry in the Inmagic Catalog database. Maintain cataloging statistics. Edit or withdraw existing Inmagic Catalog records in response to requests from library staff members in offices firm wide. Establish consistent technical services policies both in St. Louis and Firm wide when necessary and leads and facilitates continuous improvement of procedures, workflow, policies and technical services operations, reshaping where appropriate. Continue and extend an existing project to create subject and name authority files for use in conjunction with the Inmagic Catalog. Train users on the most efficient way to use the public access catalog. Perform other special projects as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school.
- Minimum three (3) years of technical services professional experience; previous law firm experience a plus.
- Minimum two years of supervisory/management experience.
- Experience with OCLC and knowledge of MARC, AACR2R, LCSH, LC classification system and standard authority control procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in standard PC applications and ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to think outside of the box.
- Proven ability to be highly motivated and work independently.
- Ability to set priorities and focus on what is critical while being extremely detail oriented.
- Ability to organize large amounts of materials and data, both electronic and hardcopy, for easy filing and retrieval.
- Proven ability to remain flexible and positive in times of continuing change.
- Ability to move up to ten (10) pounds relating to shelving of material, bend, stoop, climb small ladders and lift materials overhead.
