Library Elf August 21, 2006

Posted by L Wolfe in Techie Stuff.

Library Elf is a web-based and email tool for library users to keep track of their library borrowings. Elf is like a personal assistant, whose task is to help with keeping track of what one has on loan from the library.

Designed with the busy or avid library user in mind, Elf is ideal for families with multiple library cards or for individuals (writers, researchers, students, readers, etc.) who have cards from different libraries.

How do you add your library?

Elf also takes advantage of cell phones by sending SMS messages. Cell phones are a big disturbance issue in public (and academic?) libraries. Texting reminders, new books, requests, etc. to users would be a good way to turn that negative into a positive library marketing idea… Thinking this is too techie for your library? Penn State to use SMS

I wish St. Louis County were on the list for ELF. My reward for taking my preteen to the library all summer is an overdue notice from mid-July that just came. That one will cost me!

I’d like a list that kept track of books I want to read. The municipal library lets me make a list but half the time it errors out some way and the books disappear from it. What’s nice about it being linked to a catalog is that you can request the book later when you know you;ll have time to read it.
