Head of Access Services
Thomas Jefferson Library

Responsibilities: Manage the activities of all units in Access Services including circulation (which provides 85 hours of service each week in addition to opening and closing the building), reserves, stacks management, interlibrary loan/document delivery, and courier-delivery (circulation); supervise the creation and maintenance of the library web pages related to the department. Participate in reference desk rotation; serve on appropriate library and university committees and task forces; oversee copyright compliance as it pertains to ILL and reserve issues.  Assist in distance education initiatives.  This position also includes collection development responsibilities. 

Required: MLS from an ALA accredited program; minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible supervisory experience; experience in circulation services, including providing services to on-campus and off-campus users; demonstrated familiarity with electronic systems and services; demonstrated mastery of technical skills and knowledge of technologies for requesting and delivery; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a wide range of library users; demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively; a commitment to public service.  Some evening and weekend work required.

Preferred: Five years working in an academic library, preferably in access services; experience with circulation services (either as a paraprofessional or a professional); familiarity with OCLC ILL Web; working knowledge of Ariel and other scanning and imaging systems.

Appointment Rank and Salary: Librarian II or III; minimum $47,000 and will be based on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits package.
