St. Louis Saturday, Feb. 24th! February 19, 2007

Posted by apenningster in Student Stuff.

Join your fellow students, professors, alums and colleagues at 10am this Saturday, Feb. 24th at the Blackberry Café (http://www.cafeblackberry.com/) in Clayton. We will be discussing the future of cataloging – what the next generation library catalog will (or should) look like, how catalogers’ jobs will be different, and whether or not cataloging courses belong in the LIS curriculum. Both those with cataloging experience/knowledge and those without (and all those in between!) are encouraged to join us to share their experiences and thoughts.

Here are a few short articles to get us started:

Antelman, K., et. al. “Toward a Twenty-First Century Library Catalog.” Information Technology and Libraries. Vol. 25 no. 3 (September 2006): 128-39.
(available full text through Wilson Web’s Library Literature and Information Science Full Text database)

Markey, Karen. “The Online Library Catalog: Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained?” D-Lib Magazine. Vol. 13, No. 1/2 (Jan/Feb 2007) http://www.dlib.org/dlib/january07/markey/01markey.html.

Tennant, Roy. “The New Cataloger.” Library Journal. 15 April, 2006 http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6321736.html.

We hope to see you Saturday!
