Job Title: Clinical Resources Librarian
Organization: Washington University School of Medicine’s Becker Medical Library

Description: Washington University School of
Medicine’s Becker Medical Library, is seeking to fill the position of
Clinical Resources Librarian. The CRL is a reference and user services
librarian, who serves as a liaison to assigned clinical departments.
The CRL is specifically responsible for Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM)
resources, tools and training for the Library’s user community. This
includes teaching classes, and planning specialized instruction
enhancing evidence-based practice across the WUSM clinical community.


Specific Responsibilities:

Liaison services (40%)
• Participate with a team of librarians to develop an effective outreach program.
• Act as liaison to assigned clinical departments and programs.
• Identify and advocate for appropriate clinical and evidence-based collection development needs.
Education (40%)
• Develop, with faculty, courses in information resources for the assigned departments.
• Develop and presents instruction on tools like bibliographic
databases, online web resources, and reference management software.
• Develop educational content for EBM classes.
Reference (20%)
• Instruct library users in effective use of print and electronic tools in a variety of biomedical disciplines.
• Serve with team members to provide, reference services.


Qualifications:

Required: Masters Degree from ALA accredited school of library and/or information science.
Experience working in an academic health sciences library, biomedical library or academically affiliated clinical environment.
Experience teaching Evidence-Based Medicine concepts.
Excellent presentation, instruction, and communication skills.
Experience with the application of technology to information management problems.
Preferred: Reference experience in an academic medical center or clinical settings.
Experience teaching in a clinically focused field.
Strong background using information technologies, information management tools, and literature searching.

Salary range for this position is $40, 800 – 53,100.

Description: CATALOG LIBRARIAN

The Bernard Becker Medical Library, Washington University in St. Louis
School of Medicine, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Catalog Librarian.


Overview:

This position reports to the Associate Director for Collection
Management and is responsible for descriptive cataloging, subject
analysis and classification of monographic, audiovisual and serial
materials, both print and electronic.


Specific Responsibilities:

Cataloging
• Performs original and complex copy cataloging for medical serials and
monographs, including print, audiovisual, and electronic resources, in
accordance with the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules.
• Uses MARC tagging and OCLC Connexion to create and modify
bibliographic records, and assigns call numbers in the NLM
classification system and appropriate MeSH subject headings.
• Makes informed decisions to handle bibliographic challenges and resolve cataloging issues and questions.

Authority Control
• Reviews and verifies name and subject authority headings within the local library catalog; makes any necessary corrections.
• Performs authority work to establish new name authority records according to the Library of Congress standards.

Database Maintenance
• Maintains the quality, efficiency, consistency and structural
integrity of the bibliographic database by detecting and correcting
errors.
• Participates in providing direction and consultation for enhancements to local database system functions.

Other
• Participates in formulating, implementing, evaluating, updating and documenting cataloging policies.
• Proposes appropriate cataloging procedures for unusual materials and emergent formats.
• Maintains awareness of changes, issues and trends in national
cataloging standards and practices, and considers how these
developments will impact local cataloging.
• Assists and substitutes for colleagues when necessary.
• Assumes and performs other duties as required.


Qualifications:

• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science.
• Minimum 2-5 years previous professional experience including original
cataloging in both print and electronic formats, preferably in an
academic or health sciences library.
• Familiarity with Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, MARC, OCLC
Connexion, National Library of Medicine classification and MeSH subject
headings.
• Understanding of principles and standards for authority control.
• Excellent organization and analytic skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt.
