Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit Institution dedicated to education, research, healthcare and service, is seeking applicants for the position of Head of Access Services in the Omer Poos Law Library. Duties and

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, the Head of Access Services serves as an integral member of the administrative team. Primary responsibilities include:

1. Coordinates and supervises activities of the Circulation Dept. consisting of 3 FTE staff and 8 student employees. Tasks include, but are not necessarily limited to, desk duties, electronic reserves, ILL, stack maintenance and exhibits.

2. Works with the faculty, staff, and students to resolve patron service issues.

3. Oversees and coordinates stack management, planning, and implementation.

4. In cooperation with staff, creates and maintains departmental procedures and statistical information.

5. Participates with the other University libraries and ITS to ensure timely automated system maintenance and upgrades related to the department’s functions.

6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Law Library Director and Associate Director.


1. Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school.

2. Strong managerial skills, including three years of experience in a circulation department.

3. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively on technical issues with non-technically trained persons.

4. Demonstrates potential for developing a research agenda and ability to meet other requirements for promotion.

5. Must be willing to adopt a flexible work schedule to meet critical deadlines, accommodate staffing needs, and resolve problems that arise.


Working knowledge of Innovative Interfaces, Inc.,ILLiad, Docutek electronic reserves, OCLC, and Microsoft Office preferred.


Assistant Professor, non-tenure track, 12-month permanent appointment.


Salary at the rank of Assistant Professor dependent upon qualifications and experience. Attractive benefits including retirement programs, insurance, tuition remission, vacation and paid holidays.
