This month’s topic is library design. We will be discussing some journal articles as well as relating personal experiences with designing library spaces. Contemporary trends, ideas, and issues will be addressed. Please come with your thoughts and ideas! It should be an enlightening discussion! We will be discussing the following articles:

Demas, Sam, and Jeffrey A. Scherer. “Esprit De Place: Maintaining and Designing Library Buildings to Provide Transcendent Spaces.” American Libraries (2002):65-68.

Thomas, Mary A. “Redefining Library Space: Managing the Co-Existence of Books, Computers, and Readers.” The Journal of Academic Librarianship 26 (2000): 408-415

Fialkoff, Francine. “Design in a Day.” Library Journal 132 (2007)

I have also attached a paper from Meg Klinkow Hartmann of the Oak Brook Public Library. Feel free to bring other articles, notes, readings, etc. that you may have.

I am compiling a bibliography for further reading. If you have a helpful article
that you would like to share, please let me know. Hope to see you there!
