Overdues Clerk/ Youth Dept. Circulation Clerk

Accountability: Youth Services Librarian, Assistant Director,
Librarian-Director

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Printing, mailing and handling of overdue notices and collection
agency responsibilities
2. Charging and discharging library materials
3.  Answering phone
4. Assisting with location, reference and reader’s advisory questions
5. Shelf reading
6. Other duties as required

Skill and educational requirements:

The Overdues/ Youth Dept. Circulation Clerk shall have a minimum of a
high school diploma and some college course work, library experience,
or library course work, computer experience, or computer course work.
Library staff shall have excellent communication skills, ability to
maintain productive working relationships with co-workers, and a
strong commitment to public service.

Needed attributes:

Flexibility, sense of humor, ability to take direction, ability to
work without direct supervision, broad spectrum of interests,
continuing and active interest in reading in a variety of subject areas.

Starting immediately.

The duties include purchasing library materials, tracking the budget, updating the electronic journals, providing reference assistance, updating the library’s web page, and adding materials to FRASER.

Job Duties:
Purchase library materials, track expenses and maintain budget for library
Answer reference questions and assist with reference projects
Maintain good access to electronic journals; ensure that the proper links are in place
Process and post materials to the digital library, FRASER
Update the library’s web page
Provide input, comments, and updates for the Liber8 newsletter and website
Maintain permanent library files
Act as copyright liaison

Qualifications/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree
Enthusiasm for emerging technologies; skill in critical examination of library trends
Keen attention to detail
Excellent organizational skills
Self-starter, independent worker, team player
Strong oral and written communication skills required
High level of computer literacy; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Internet use, HTML
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and use of the Internet required
Prefer library experience
Minimum Starting Salary: $37,800

The duties include delivering newspapers, requesting interlibrary loans, checking journals into the catalog, and circulating/routing/shelving library materials.

Activities will include:
Delivering newspapers to the executive offices
Circulating library materials
Shelving materials and keeping shelves in good order
Entering the receipt of periodicals into the online catalog system
Delivering mail and routing materials from the library
Requesting books and articles from other libraries using interlibrary loan system
Helping library patrons

Qualifications/Skills:
Graduation from high school, prefer some college experience
Prefer library experience
Attention to detail
Self-starter, independent worker, team player
Strong oral and written communication skills required
Computer skills required
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and use of the Internet preferred

Minimum Starting Salary: $28,300
